First, what exactly is ‘non-incisional suture removal’?
For those who have undergone non-incisional double eyelid surgery (buried suture method), some may experience a pulling sensation in the eyes or find the double eyelid line unsatisfactory.
In such cases, this surgical method helps you return as close as possible to your original appearance by removing the sutures.

An important point to note is that suture removal is a procedure to remove the threads, not necessarily a procedure to ‘undo’ the double eyelid crease.
If the sutures are removed shortly after the initial surgery, the crease may disappear. However, please keep in mind that if tissue adhesion has already occurred, the double eyelid crease may remain even after the sutures are gone.

You might be curious about the surgical method.
At Gangnam Seoyeon, we remove the sutures by creating a small opening through the existing incision hole.
The most critical factor here is removing the sutures without causing any tissue damage.
At Gangnam Seoyeon, a board-certified plastic surgeon with 20 years of experience performs the procedure to ensure safety.

So, which cases are eligible for non-incisional suture removal?
First, removal is only possible for cases performed using the ‘single-knot continuous method.’
In cases involving multiple knots, suture removal can be very difficult.

Additionally, if dissolvable sutures were used, they must be removed within approximately 1 to 2 weeks.
Once this period has passed, removing the sutures becomes difficult.

For those who are not candidates for suture removal but are unhappy with their current eye shape, we recommend changing the double eyelid line through an incisional method.

Some may wish to undergo revision surgery immediately after suture removal.
Depending on the condition of the eyes, revision surgery may be possible immediately, or it may require a waiting period of 6 months.
An accurate determination can only be made through a direct consultation.

You may also be curious about bruising and swelling after the procedure.
While it varies by individual, most swelling subsides within a week, and bruising typically disappears within one to two weeks.

The video below shows the actual process of removing non-incisional sutures.

Frequently Asked Questions
If the buried thread is removed, will the double eyelid completely disappear?
No, it does not necessarily disappear. If the buried method surgery was performed recently, removing the thread may cause the double eyelid to disappear. However, if the tissues have already adhered, it should be noted that even if the thread is removed, the double eyelid line may remain as it is.
Is it possible to remove the thread regardless of which buried method was used for the surgery?
No, removal is only possible for cases operated with the single-knot continuous method. In cases where surgery was performed using a multi-knot method with several knots, it is very difficult to find and remove the threads. Also, if dissolvable threads were used, removal is only possible within 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery, and it becomes difficult after this period.
When do swelling and bruising subside after buried thread removal surgery?
Most recovery occurs within 1 to 2 weeks. There may be slight differences depending on the individual's constitution and condition, but generally, major swelling subsides significantly in about a week, and bruising naturally disappears completely after one week to a maximum of two weeks.
When can double eyelid revision surgery be performed after buried thread removal?
It depends on the patient's eye condition. Depending on the tissue condition and recovery level of the eye, revision surgery may be possible immediately after thread removal, but in some cases, it may be necessary to wait about 6 months until the tissues stabilize. The exact timing for revision surgery should be determined through direct examination by a specialist.
What if thread removal is not possible, but I want to change my eye shape?
We recommend double eyelid revision surgery through the incisional method. If buried thread removal surgery is not possible due to multi-knot surgery or the use of dissolvable threads past their effective period, and you are not satisfied with your current eye line, you can consider the incisional method to release the existing line and create a new double eyelid line.
