Removing Male Double Eyelids?

While deep and defined double eyelids can be charming on men, many men these days generally prefer eyes that look large but have almost no visible double eyelid.

For men who already have prominent double eyelids, this can often be a source of significant stress.

For this reason, many male patients have recently been visiting our clinic seeking double eyelid removal or a ‘monolid’ look.

Surgical Methods with High Risk of Side Effects

While there are ways to completely eliminate the double eyelid, we do not recommend them.

If you artificially undo the double eyelid just because you want it gone, the remaining skin will sag and cover the pupil.

To prevent this, a large amount of skin must be artificially excised.

We do not recommend this approach because it leaves significant visible scarring.

This is an example of how prominent the scarring can become.

The photo above shows a patient who came to us to correct an awkward result after surgery at another clinic. You can see that the line is uneven and irregular, and the scar remains visible.

Double Eyelid Removal and Monolid Ptosis Correction at Gangnam Seoyeon

Therefore, at Gangnam Seoyeon Plastic Surgery, we do not remove the double eyelid by cutting away skin. Instead, we perform monolid ptosis correction by rolling the double eyelid line inward so it is no longer visible.

Strictly speaking, our male double eyelid removal and monolid ptosis correction is a surgery to ‘hide the double eyelid’.

Rather than deleting the fold, we create a very thin line and tuck it inward. This creates a thin ‘inner double eyelid’ that is not visible from the outside.

This results in large, clear eyes where the double eyelid is not seen when the eyes are open.

Next, let’s look at some before and after photos of the procedure.

This patient had slightly sleepy-looking eyes and a line that was ambiguous—somewhere between a double eyelid and a wrinkle. In many cases, these are actually wrinkles rather than true double eyelids.

Precautions for Male Double Eyelid Removal

Important things to consider for male double eyelid removal:

1. This is a procedure to reduce the eyelid line rather than completely erase it. If the line is set too low, it can damage the muscles responsible for closing the eye. This can lead to a permanent inability to close the eyes, causing irreversible damage.

2. Additionally, if the existing double eyelid is not properly released, multiple folds (triple eyelids) may occur. Therefore, it is crucial to be treated by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon.

Can the line be set very low during surgery?

No, setting the line too low is dangerous. It can damage the muscles that close the eye, which can lead to severe side effects where the eye permanently cannot close, so setting an appropriate height is very important.

If I have existing double eyelids and undergo this surgery, will I not get multiple folds?
