Post-Operative Care Instructions for Rhinoplasty at Gangnam Seoyeon Plastic Surgery

Post-Operative Care Instructions for Rhinoplasty

1. After surgery, please use high pillows. It is best to sleep lying on your back with your upper body elevated.

2. On the first day, your nose will be packed, which may feel stuffy and cause your mouth to feel dry. Please drink plenty of fluids.

3. You may feel a sensation of slight bleeding inside the nose. While actual bleeding can occur, in most cases, it is simply residual blood from the early stages of surgery mixing with nasal discharge and flowing out.

4. Nosebleeds may occur after the packing material (Merocel) is removed from inside the nose. In most cases, the bleeding will stop on its own if you tilt your head back and wait. However, in the very rare event that excessive bleeding does not stop, please visit the clinic. Please call your designated manager.

5. Even if you did not have eye surgery along with your nose surgery, swelling may occasionally occur around the eyes following rhinoplasty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I sleep after rhinoplasty?

It is best to sleep on your back with your upper body elevated. After surgery, raising your head higher than your heart by using a higher pillow than usual can greatly help reduce swelling and ensure stable recovery.

My mouth feels very dry on the first day after surgery. What should I do?

It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids. On the first day after surgery, your nose is blocked, making it difficult to breathe through your nose, and breathing through your mouth can easily lead to a dry mouth, so you should drink water frequently.

I feel like blood is continuously flowing from inside my nose. Is this normal?

Yes, this is mostly a natural phenomenon. Although there are cases where actual bleeding occurs, it is often the case that blood that was present in the early stages of surgery mixes with nasal discharge and flows out, so you don't need to worry too much.

What should I do if my nose bleeds after removing the cotton from inside my nose?

Most nosebleeds will stop on their own if you tilt your head back and wait. However, in very rare cases, if an excessive amount of nosebleed continues and does not stop, you should immediately call your consultant and visit the hospital to receive appropriate treatment.

I only had nose surgery, but my eyes are swollen. Is this normal?

Yes, sometimes swelling around the eyes can occur. Even if you only had nose surgery and not eye and nose surgery together, swelling can come down to the area around your eyes, which is close to the surgical site, so please keep this in mind.
